I’ll tackle the questions in future posts, or will ask a colleague who is a specialist to write a guest post on that subject.

Your book sounds really interesting. How long did this war last? What was the long term effect on the children and families of the Dakota people?
Wow. The war lasted only six weeks (on the white man’s calendar) but 150 years later, it still effects Dakota people. I will try to find some Dakota sources I can link to on the blog so you can hear that part of the story in their own words. Thank you for asking.

My great great grandfather, John Zimmerman, and two of his sons were shot and killed by Indians in front of my great grandmother, Elizabeth Zimmerman. My sister and I are planning a trip to the area to visit the monuments. I appreciate reading anything about the uprising and thank you for your book.
